With the deadline fast approaching, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kosovo reported on Monday that none of the registered political entities have yet submitted their official lists of candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

As of 2:00 PM on May 11, 2026, the CEC confirmed that while 27 political entities have applied to participate in the June 7 general elections, the certification process for individual candidates remains stagnant.

Digital Submission Process Underway

CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi noted that although the submission process is being conducted through an online platform to ensure efficiency, no completed applications for candidate certification have been registered in the system so far.

“The process for submitting lists is active and being handled online, but as of this afternoon, we have not received any finalized submissions from the participating entities,” Elezi stated.

Election Landscape and Next Steps

The period for notifying the commission of intent to participate and for the formation of pre-election coalitions has officially closed. The final field for these snap elections consists of 27 political entities, a diverse group comprising:

  • Political Parties
  • Coalitions
  • One Citizens’ Initiative
  • One Independent Candidate

What Follows?

Once the certification of candidate lists is finalized, the CEC will proceed with the official lottery to determine the numerical ranking of each entity on the ballot paper.

The elections scheduled for June 7, 2026, are premature and are expected to play a critical role in shaping the new composition of the Assembly of Kosovo. Political observers suggest that parties may be utilizing the final hours of the deadline to refine their internal rankings and strategic placements before the digital window closes.
