EU Special Envoy for the Kosovo–Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, met today in Brussels with Petar Petković.
During the meeting, Petković complained that Serbs in Kosovo are “almost every day exposed to political and institutional pressure from Pristina,” and warned Sorensen that before every election, according to his claims, Albin Kurti undertakes unilateral and escalatory actions to the detriment of the Serbian people.
Petković further reportedly alleged that Serbs in Kosovo are almost every day faced with “arrests and politically motivated proceedings against them carried out without respect for fundamental human rights, accompanied by a media and political campaign from Pristina.”
On the other hand, he said that Belgrade is committed to peace, but also to the protection of its people in Kosovo.
“The policy of Belgrade and President Aleksandar Vučić is the preservation of peace and stability in the Western Balkans and the protection of the rights of the Serbian people,” and that “on this path it will continue despite Pristina’s attempts to undertake unilateral actions and obstruct dialogue.”
Belgrade is, he said, committed to normalization and solving problems through dialogue.
Therefore, he demanded that the formation of the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities begin.
“Belgrade is committed to the normalization of relations, as well as to the fact that all problems we have on the ground are solved through dialogue, as the only place for finding sustainable solutions. For this reason, it is important to start with concrete steps towards the formation of the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities, which is a guarantee for the security and collective rights of Serbs,” Petković emphasized.
