U.S. President Donald Trump has arrived in Beijing, where he is set to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping over the next two days amid growing geopolitical and economic tensions.
Trump landed at Beijing Capital International Airport to an elaborate welcome ceremony featuring a military honor guard, a military band, waving flags, and groups of young Chinese welcoming the American president as he descended from Air Force One.
Among those accompanying Trump was Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, who was seen on the airport tarmac alongside several major American technology and business executives.
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng personally welcomed Trump upon arrival — a gesture widely interpreted as a sign of respect from Beijing toward the U.S. president. During Trump’s previous visit to China in 2017, the welcoming delegation had been led by a lower-ranking official, then-State Councilor Yang Jiechi.
Han Zheng had also attended Trump’s inauguration last year, highlighting ongoing high-level diplomatic engagement between the two powers despite escalating disputes over trade, technology, Taiwan, and the conflict involving Iran.
The visit comes at a particularly sensitive moment for global markets and international diplomacy, with investors and world leaders closely watching whether the Trump–Xi meetings can ease tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
