Iranian authorities have announced that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is gradually resuming, although they did not disclose details regarding which vessels are being permitted to pass through the strategic corridor.

According to Iranian state television, at least 30 ships have been granted permission to transit the strait since last evening.

Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency Fars News Agency reported that several of the vessels belong to Chinese companies, which according to the reports is connected to Iran’s new strategy for controlling the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials emphasized that the strait is neither fully open nor completely closed.

“It is open to everyone except the United States and its allies,” officials stated, adding that Iran is implementing a “major strategy” in the strategically important waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, with approximately 20 percent of global crude oil shipments passing through it.

Iran’s decision comes at a time of heightened tensions across the region.
