The Kosovo Police (KP) has officially bolstered its aerial surveillance and counter-terrorism capabilities following the successful completion of a specialized 15-day training program and the receipt of a significant technological donation from the United States.
On May 15, 2026, a graduation ceremony was held for 12 police officers who are now certified to operate the advanced Skydio Unmanned Aerial Systems (drones).
Advanced Training for Modern Policing
The intensive 15-day course was designed to integrate drone technology into standard police operations and public safety efforts. The training curriculum covered several critical areas:
- Theory & Practice: Comprehensive instruction on the mechanics and flight physics of Skydio systems.
- Mission Planning: Strategic planning for flight missions and operational procedures in diverse environments.
- Intelligent Navigation: Utilizing the autonomous and AI-driven navigation features unique to Skydio drones to avoid obstacles and track subjects.
- Field Application: Real-world simulations for search and rescue, surveillance, and tactical support.
$273,000 U.S. Donation
In tandem with the training, the Kosovo Police accepted a major donation valued at $273,637.22 from the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo.
The equipment was provided through the Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program (ATA), a U.S. State Department initiative designed to build the capacity of foreign law enforcement to combat terrorism and organized crime.
“This donation will directly impact the strengthening of the operational and technological capacities of our police units, increasing operational efficiency and the level of public safety in the country,” the Kosovo Police stated in their official release.
Strategic Importance
The addition of Skydio drones is seen as a force multiplier for the Kosovo Police. Unlike traditional drones, Skydio systems are known for their high degree of autonomy and obstacle avoidance, making them ideal for:
- Border Security: Monitoring difficult terrain in northern and border regions.
- Tactical Support: Providing “eyes in the sky” for high-risk arrests and anti-terror operations.
- Crime Scene Documentation: Capturing high-resolution 3D maps of investigative sites.
The Kosovo Police expressed deep gratitude to the U.S. Embassy, the ATA program, and the instructors for their continued partnership. This latest development further solidifies the security cooperation between Washington and Pristina as Kosovo continues to modernize its law enforcement infrastructure to meet international standards.
