In a major development surrounding the gangland execution of suspected cartel “cashier” Aleksandar “Baja” Nešović, investigative journalist Vuk Cvijić has exposed the formal defense statement given by Belgrade’s powerful police chief, Veselin Milić.

Speaking on the latest broadcast of the political talk show “Utisak nedelje” (Impression of the Week), Cvijić, a prominent reporter for Radar, revealed that Chief Milić is aggressively pushing an alibi to distance himself from the murder scene.

According to Cvijić, during a closed-door hearing before the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office (VJT) in Belgrade, Milić was the only high-ranking official among the detainees to formally present a defense. He adamantly denied being inside the “27” restaurant in the affluent Senjak neighborhood at the precise moment Nešović was gunned down.

The Mystery of the Missing Official Police Memo

Responding to questions from host Olja Bećković regarding unreleased details of the case, Cvijić shed light on a controversial administrative document that has been the subject of heavy public suspicion.

A Grisly Discovery in Inđija

The journalist’s revelations come just days after a gruesome breakthrough in the homicide investigation. On Thursday, forensics teams acting on a tip-off excavated a plastic barrel on the territory of the Inđija municipality, located north of Belgrade.

The VJT subsequently confirmed that the human remains discovered dissolved or hidden inside the barrel are strongly believed to belong to the missing Nešović.

The Trigger-Man: Saša "Boske" Vuković (Arrested)
The Supposed Shield: Belgrade Police Chief Veselin Milić & Three Bodyguards
Body Disposal: Buried inside a barrel in Inđija

Police Network Accused of Destroying Murder Evidence

The formal state theory completely contradicts Chief Milić’s timeline. Prosecutors strongly suspect that Nešović was shot point-blank by notorious underworld figure Saša Vuković, alias “Boske.”

Crucially, investigators allege that the execution occurred in the direct presence of Police Chief Milić. Furthermore, prosecutors assert that Milić, alongside three elite police officers assigned to his personal security detail, actively participated in a coordinated cover-up.

The state alleges that the police chief and his subordinates used their specialized law enforcement training to dismantle the crime scene, wipe forensic evidence, and manage the logistics of transporting and concealing the victim’s body in the Inđija barrel—marking one of the most severe institutional corruption scandals to hit the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) in recent history.
