For the second consecutive day, thousands of citizens have protested in Tirana in defense of Zvërnec in Albania, where days earlier a citizen was injured after opposing the construction of a resort in the coastal area.

A video circulating on social media shows a private security company worker striking a protester, while two others dragged him for several meters.

The area where construction has begun for the resort is part of a nationally and internationally protected landscape. It is considered one of the most important habitats in Albania for water birds and migratory species, including flamingos.

The project is linked to previously announced plans by Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump, who in March 2024 stated he aims to build hotels and hundreds of villas in the Zvërnec area.

In response to the project, citizens in Tirana have taken to the streets again for a second consecutive day.

Protesters initially gathered in front of the Ministry of Interior of Albania and later moved toward the Prime Minister’s Office of Albania.

They carried banners reading “The Homeland Is Not for Sale” and other strong political slogans, according to Top Channel.

This is the second consecutive rally following calls spread through social media.

A day earlier, citizens marched from the Tirana Police Directorate to the Interior Ministry and ended in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, showing strong public engagement on environmental issues and the protection of protected areas.
