Hungary has sought to curb Western and NATO support for Ukraine throughout the Russian invasion.
It is known that Hungary has not sent weapons to Ukraine for a long time and has blocked billions in EU funds.
Moreover, in April 2022, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as one of his “opponents.”
Recently, Orban stated that he supports NATO’s policy of helping its members if they are attacked, but he does not support giving money and arms to Ukraine, which is not a member of the alliance, according to Yahoo News.
Additionally, Orban said he disagrees with the views of some NATO members that Russia might invade countries on the alliance’s eastern flank.
Instead, he described the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a war between “two Slavic countries.”
Otherwise, NATO has been a strong supporter of Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
Through the alliance, its members have pledged more than $700 million in support and billions more individually.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has proposed that the alliance’s members coordinate $100 billion for Ukraine over the next five years, but not all members seem to have agreed.
Stoltenberg has also said that Ukraine will one day become a NATO member.
