Valentina Sopjani and Agron Maxhuni Elected Members of the Kosovo Judicial Council

Following the completion of the secret voting process and vote count, Judge Valentina Sopjani and Supervising Judge Agron Maxhuni have been elected as members of the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC), the Kosovo Judicial Council announced.

According to the KJC, both candidates were elected in the first round after receiving the majority support of judges participating in the vote.

Judge Sopjani serves at the Basic Court of Prishtina, while Judge Maxhuni serves at the Basic Court of Mitrovica, Vushtrri Branch.

The KJC stated that the election process was conducted in accordance with the applicable legal provisions and regulations governing the selection of Judicial Council members from within the judiciary.

“The election results will be certified by the Kosovo Judicial Council. Following certification, the elected members will begin exercising their five-year mandate starting on July 8, 2026,” the Council said.

Valentina Sopjani

Valentina Sopjani is a judge in the General Department – Civil Division of the Basic Court of Prishtina.

She graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Prishtina in 2012 and passed the bar examination in 2016.

Between 2014 and 2015, she completed her professional internship with attorney Emrush Kastrati. From 2015 to 2018, she worked as a professional associate in the office of private enforcement agent Flamur Bogaj.

On January 21, 2019, Sopjani was appointed judge at the Basic Court of Prishtina in the General Department – Civil Division, a position she continues to hold.

Agron Maxhuni

Agron Maxhuni is a judge in the General Department – Criminal Division of the Basic Court of Mitrovica, Vushtrri Branch.

Born on August 8, 1977, in Maxhunaj, Vushtrri, he has resided in Prishtina since 1996. He graduated from the University of Prishtina in 2001 and passed the bar examination in 2015.

Throughout his career, Maxhuni has held several senior positions in Kosovo’s public administration, including:

  • Senior Monitoring Officer at the Ministry of Public Services (2003–2005)
  • Head of the Legislative Development Division at the Ministry of Local Government Administration (2005–2007)
  • Director of the Legal Department and Municipal Monitoring at the Ministry of Local Government Administration (2007–2016)
  • Secretary General of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (2016–2017)

He has also participated in numerous professional training programs related to European Union law, public administration reform, local governance, arbitration, and judicial training, including programs supported by the EU, USAID, JICA, and the Kosovo Justice Academy.

The election of Sopjani and Maxhuni marks the beginning of a new five-year term within the Kosovo Judicial Council, one of the key institutions responsible for safeguarding the independence, efficiency, and accountability of Kosovo’s judicial system.
