Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has accused the United States of violating the ceasefire agreement, claiming that American forces carried out an airstrike along Iran’s coastline.
In a statement, the IRGC said the United States launched the attack “under various pretexts,” alleging that an Iranian vessel had deviated from an authorized route in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the IRGC, the Iranian Navy responded by targeting U.S. military positions in the region, although no further details were provided regarding the locations or the extent of the damage.
Ebrahim Azizi, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Commission, said the U.S. strikes demonstrated that President Donald Trump “had no commitment to the principles of negotiations or a ceasefire.”
“This reckless violation of the ceasefire, as always, will lead to their retreat and regret. The blame game no longer works,” Azizi wrote on social media.
On Friday, the U.S. military launched strikes against Iranian targets after President Donald Trump accused Iran of a “reckless violation” of the ceasefire following an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
Washington and Tehran had previously reached a temporary ceasefire agreement aimed at ensuring the security of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. However, both sides have continued to accuse each other over control and security of the strategic waterway.
Under the memorandum of understanding, the United States agreed to lift its naval blockade of Iran, while Tehran committed to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and reaffirming that it would neither develop nor provide nuclear weapons. The agreement also sets a 60-day deadline for negotiating a comprehensive final settlement.
