Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said in an interview with Euronews Serbia that Serbia bears the main responsibility for the current deadlock in the dialogue with Kosovo because, according to him, it has failed to accept the new reality.
“Serbia is primarily responsible for the situation we have in the dialogue because it is not ready to accept reality, and reality has changed. There is no longer anything called Kosovo and Metohija; there is only the Republic of Kosovo,” Rama said.
Asked about the fact that five European Union member states still do not recognize Kosovo’s independence, Rama argued that five out of 27 represents only a small minority and demonstrates that the overwhelming majority of EU countries have accepted the new reality.
“This is not about weakness; it is about accepting the fact that reality has changed. Just as all the other peoples of the former Yugoslavia found their path and became independent, Albanians also had the right to self-determination. Naturally, this must be accompanied by good cooperation and harmonious relations with minorities. Today, Albanians are no longer a minority in Serbia, while Serbs are a minority in Kosovo,” Rama stated.
