In a unanimous decision, Zana Spahiu has been officially elected as the new General Director of Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK).
The high-stakes appointment was finalized on Friday during a formal session of the RTK Board, where Spahiu secured a definitive three-year mandate to lead Kosovo’s public broadcaster.
A Unanimous Board Vote Following Top Interview Scores
According to the Law on RTK, appointing a general director requires a two-thirds majority of the total board membership. Spahiu comfortably cleared this legal hurdle, securing all 9 votes in favor from the board members present.
The vote follows a rigorous evaluation process monitored closely by civil society watchdogs, including KALLXO.com. Spahiu emerged as the frontrunner earlier in the week after achieving the highest overall score during the panel interviews held on July 13, 2026.
The Selection Breakdown: Board Scoring Results
A total of six candidates were interviewed by the nine-member board. The final scores—calculated by aggregating all board member evaluations and dividing them by nine—highlight Spahiu’s significant lead in the competition:
| Candidate | Final Board Evaluation Score | Board Vote Outcome |

With the selection process officially closed, Spahiu takes the helm of the public broadcaster at a critical juncture, facing immediate institutional expectations to maintain independent public broadcasting standards, manage structural budget resources responsibly, and drive the network’s ongoing digital transition.
