A major police operation has been carried out in Italy, resulting in the seizure of a large quantity of cocaine.
Authorities discovered that some of the packages containing the drugs were marked with symbols resembling the Serbian flag.
During inspections at the port of Vado Ligure, officials uncovered a shipment containing 650 packages, which together with the packaging held more than 770 kilograms of narcotics.
Initial tests conducted during the operation confirmed that the substance was cocaine of very high purity.
The drugs had been carefully concealed among dozens of banana pallets inside a refrigerated container that had arrived from one of Ecuador’s main ports.
The operation was the result of ongoing intelligence work and detailed inspections carried out by officers from the Savona Police Group together with customs authorities, focusing on trade routes connecting South America with the port of Vado Ligure.
The port has become an increasingly important hub for the movement of goods into Europe, but it has also become a potential target for international illegal trafficking networks.
This latest seizure represents one of the most significant anti-drug operations conducted at the port of Vado Ligure in recent years.
According to authorities’ estimates, if the cocaine had reached the market, criminal organizations could have generated profits of around €250 million.
