US President Donald Trump has reiterated his promise to give every adult in the United States $5,000 if the Republican Party wins the midterm elections.

Speaking at an event in Washington, D.C., Trump said the payments would be made if Republicans secure victory, stressing that the money would have to be spent within the United States.

“If we win the election, everyone will get $5,000. But you have to spend the money in the United States of America,” he said.

Trump also accused Democrats of trying to block the initiative, adding that the US Congress would not allow it to fail.

The president’s promise has sparked controversy and criticism from opponents, who have described it as an attempt to influence voters through financial incentives. It also highlights the importance Trump is placing on the upcoming midterm elections.

However, it remains unclear how the White House would finance such a proposal. Estimates suggest that payments to every adult American would cost approximately $1.35 trillion, equivalent to around 4 percent of US gross domestic product (GDP).

The proposal would also face obstacles in Congress, similar to those encountered by Trump’s earlier initiative for a $2,000 rebate funded by tariff revenues, which failed to secure lawmakers’ approval.
