Albania reported 25 wildfire outbreaks on Wednesday, with eight remaining active as authorities continue firefighting operations across several parts of the country.
The most critical situation has been reported in Riban and Ngraçan in the Mallakastër area, where flames have spread through pine forests, fueled by strong winds. Firefighters have so far been unable to fully contain the blazes.
Aerial firefighting operations are expected to resume Thursday morning. An Air Tractor AT-833 firefighting aircraft was deployed for the first time in Riban, alongside helicopters operated by the Albanian Air Force and a Bayraktar drone.
Other active fires have been reported in Elbasan, Libohovë, Dropull and Dibër. Authorities said that, at present, populated areas are not under immediate threat.
Meanwhile, the wildfire in Penkovë, Selenicë, has been completely extinguished. The fire burned approximately two hectares of pine forest and destroyed 40 abandoned vehicles.
Authorities continue to monitor the remaining active fire zones as firefighting teams work to prevent further spread.
