The U.S. Senate has confirmed retired General Eric Wendt as the next U.S. ambassador to Albania.
The confirmation was announced by U.S. political and security affairs analyst Adrian Shtuni in a Facebook post.
Wendt’s confirmation was part of a package of 74 nominations approved by the Senate during Friday’s session. The nominations were approved under Senate Resolution 817 (S. Res. 817), with 51 senators voting in favor and 47 against.
Wendt, a retired U.S. Army general, is now set to take up the post as Washington’s diplomatic representative in Tirana, succeeding the current U.S. ambassador.
His appointment comes as the United States continues to emphasize security cooperation and strategic partnerships in the Western Balkans, including its close relationship with Albania, a NATO ally.
