The “Liria ka Emër” platform has launched a citizen petition following the Kosovo Specialist Chambers’ first-instance verdict against former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders.
The petition calls for a fair, transparent and evidence-based judicial process and urges that the court decisions be reviewed through all available legal avenues.
Among the demands outlined in the petition are:
- A full examination of the evidence;
- Respect for fair-trial standards;
- Transparency throughout the proceedings;
- Full opportunities for appeals and the use of available legal remedies;
- Individual assessment of responsibility based on evidence;
- Respect for the fundamental rights of the accused;
- Respect for the rights and dignity of victims.
The petition emphasizes that signing it represents personal support for the demands outlined and does not constitute a legal finding regarding the guilt or innocence of any individual.
The organizers also explicitly distance the initiative from threats or violence, stating that the petition does not encourage threats, harassment, violence or attacks against judges, prosecutors, victims, witnesses, institutions or political groups.
The initiative comes after the Specialist Chambers convicted former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi at first instance. The verdicts remain subject to appeal and further legal proceedings.
