Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) MP Time Kadrijaj has said she would sign an initiative to abolish the Kosovo Specialist Chambers if such a proposal were brought before the Kosovo Assembly.
Kadrijaj made the statement following the Specialist Chambers’ first-instance verdicts against former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders, which she described as unacceptable.
She also criticized the court for issuing its decision in the name of the people of Kosovo, arguing that the population had already expressed its position through a large public gathering on September 12.
“It is shameful what has happened. It is unacceptable that the decision is also announced in the name of the people of Kosovo. The people of Kosovo gave their verdict on September 12 through the massive gathering,” Kadrijaj said.
Kadrijaj described the Specialist Chambers as a “purely political” court and alleged that materials used in its cases originated from Serbia and its associates. She also argued that Serbian forces were responsible for crimes and violence during the Kosovo war and questioned the prosecution of former KLA members.
“Serbia is the one that committed crimes and violence. To convict our soldiers, honestly, is shameful,” she said.
Kadrijaj said AAK had not yet been formally approached to sign an initiative seeking the dissolution of the Specialist Chambers.
However, she said the party would support such a proposal if it were submitted to the Assembly.
“We have not yet been contacted, but the moment we are contacted, we will certainly give our signature. We were against the establishment of this court in the first place. We will respond positively to an initiative for the dissolution of the Specialist Chambers in the Kosovo Assembly,” Kadrijaj said.
The comments followed the first-instance convictions of former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi. The verdicts remain subject to appeal and further legal proceedings.
