A number of witnesses or alleged victims participating in proceedings before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers have been granted asylum outside Kosovo. This is confirmed in a June 2025 report by the Victims’ Participation Office in The Hague.
“Some participating victims were forced to seek and were granted asylum as a result of fears for their safety in Kosovo. Another withdrew from the proceedings due to security concerns, but this is not the only individual who faced threats both online and in the real world,” the report prepared by the Victims’ Participation Office within the Kosovo Specialist Chambers states.
In total, in the case against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, the Prosecution presented 257 witnesses, 125 of whom testified in court, with the majority of them being subject to protective measures.
On Wednesday, September 16, Thaçi, Veseli, Selimi and Krasniqi were sentenced by the Trial Panel to a combined total of 81 years in prison.
