Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has received a congratulatory letter from US Congressman George Latimer on the constitution of the Assembly, the formation of the government, and his new term as prime minister.
In his letter, Latimer expressed his willingness to work with Kurti and Kosovo’s institutions to advance democracy, the rule of law, and economic prosperity.
The US congressman also called for cross-party cooperation in Kosovo to elect a new president, with the aim of avoiding new parliamentary elections.
“I encourage all political parties in Kosovo to return to the negotiating table to reach an agreement on the new President, in order to avoid another costly cycle of parliamentary elections,” Latimer wrote.
Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court has determined that the 60-day deadline for electing the President expires on October 6, 2026. If a President is not elected by that date, the Assembly will be dissolved and the country will go to new elections.
Kurti and Latimer met on September 22 in New York, during the prime minister’s visit to the United Nations General Assembly.
