The U.S. Embassy in Prishtina has praised cooperation between American and Kosovo institutions in the fight against transnational cybercrime, highlighting the role of Kosovo’s Special Prosecutor’s Office and other institutions in a case that resulted in the conviction of a former U.S. serviceman.
In a statement published on September 28, the embassy thanked Kosovo’s Special Prosecutor’s Office and other institutions involved in the investigation and prosecution. “Another example of successful U.S.-Kosovo cooperation in combating transnational cybercrime,” the embassy said, praising the institutions for their collaboration in bringing the case to justice.
According to the FBI, former U.S. Army soldier Cameron Wagenius was sentenced to 70 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to hack telecommunications companies, obtain sensitive information and extort companies by demanding payment. The case highlights continued cooperation between U.S. and Kosovo authorities in addressing cybercrime that crosses national borders.
