U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson has congratulated the citizens of Serbia, particularly the student movement, following the snap parliamentary elections, in which the Student List secured a majority of the vote, according to preliminary results.
In a post on X, Wilson praised Serbian students for their commitment, describing their efforts to restore the rule of law in the country as a display of determination and historic patriotism.
“Americans extend their heartfelt congratulations to the citizens of Serbia following a difficult election campaign,” the congressman wrote.
Wilson stressed that the conclusion of the electoral process marks the beginning of a new chapter, expressing hope for stronger relations between Serbia and the United States.
“Now the hard work begins. I look forward to the renewal of relations between Serbia and the United States! God bless Serbia,” he added.
Wilson’s remarks came after Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić acknowledged defeat in the parliamentary elections.
According to preliminary estimates published by the CeSID election-monitoring organization, the Student List, running under the slogan “Students Win,” received 52.1 percent of the vote, translating into 138 seats in Serbia’s 250-seat parliament.
Meanwhile, the list “Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia” secured 39.3 percent of the vote, or 104 seats, according to the same estimates.
The final results remain subject to confirmation by Serbia’s electoral authorities.
