British newspaper The Independent sparked reactions on Facebook after illustrating its report on Serbia’s elections and the Student List’s victory with a photograph taken in the centre of Pristina, the capital of the Republic of Kosovo.
Although the article focused on Serbia’s electoral developments, the image showed Pristina, prompting Albanian commenters to point out the apparent mix-up.
“This is the capital of the Republic of Kosovo,” one commenter wrote.
“When you report on France, illustrate it with a photo of Brussels,” another remarked sarcastically.
The image choice quickly became a talking point, with commenters highlighting the importance of accurately identifying the places shown in international news coverage.
