Britain warns that NATO must prepare for worst-case scenarios, while Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says the war in Ukraine is likely to escalate.

British Defence Secretary Wes Streeting has warned that NATO must be prepared for the worst-case scenarios, stressing that the Alliance does not seek war with Russia.

During a meeting in Warsaw, Streeting emphasized that NATO is a purely defensive alliance, but cautioned that statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin must be taken seriously.

“When Putin gives assurances that he has no intention of provoking a war with NATO, we are reminded of his statements about Ukraine, made just days before the invasion,” Streeting said.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the war in Ukraine will continue, assessing that the conflict is showing signs of escalation.

“The war in Ukraine will continue. In fact, I would say that it is showing a tendency towards escalation,” Lavrov stated.

The statements come amid ongoing tensions between Russia and NATO member states, while the prospects for an end to the war in Ukraine remain uncertain.
