Kosovo’s government has approved the draft law ratifying the Agreement between Kosovo and Belgium on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, the Office of the Prime Minister has announced.

The government said the agreement aims to “strengthen cooperation between the authorities of both countries in securing evidence, conducting criminal proceedings, and combating crime across national borders.”

“This agreement strengthens the legal framework for cooperation between our two states in criminal matters and regulates procedures for the seizure and confiscation of assets, as well as the establishment of joint investigative teams, with the aim of increasing efficiency in the fight against transnational crime,” Justice Minister Donika Gërvalla said.

Through the agreement, the government said, common rules will be established for exchanging evidence, carrying out investigative and procedural actions, and handling requests for legal assistance. It will also clearly define the responsibilities of the authorities in both states and the conditions for lawful implementation.
