North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denounced NATO’s summit declaration, threatening to respond with “the harshest strategic counteraction” against what it views as a “threat,” reported the state-controlled Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on July 13, citing a ministry spokesperson.

The document, finalized after NATO’s three-day summit, condemned North Korea and Iran for escalating Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine by offering military assistance to Moscow.

With Russia’s military stocks at a low level and domestic production capacity hampered by Western sanctions simultaneously, North Korea has emerged as a key supplier of Russian arms. Moscow is said to have received extensive military aid packages from Pyongyang, including around 5 million artillery shells.

“Any transfer of ballistic missiles and related technology from Iran to Russia would constitute a significant escalation,” the statement warned.
