The British Ambassador to Serbia, Edward Ferguson, has stated that the failure to bring those responsible for the attack in Banjska to justice has alarmed official London.
“We have seen incidents such as the attack in Banjska, where in September, a group of armed individuals killed a policeman, began shooting, and a year later, no one has been held accountable for that attack. I can tell you that this has caused concern and frustration in London and among other representatives in Europe,” he said, adding that both parties must make continuous efforts to find a way to reduce tensions so that everyone can return to dialogue.
Ferguson mentioned that in Ohrid, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, made a plan for normalization, but said that “they are far from being satisfied with the progress.”
“We have seen some progress, which we welcome, such as Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo’s license plates. Kosovo has finally implemented the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the property belonging to the Dečani Monastery. The United Kingdom has been very involved in pressing for this to happen. But much more needs to be done to achieve stabilization, and this is what we want,” Ferguson stated.
Ferguson said that it is a fact that the positions of Serbia and the United Kingdom overlap when it comes to the status of Kosovo, but emphasized that there are also matters on which they share the same view.
“We recognize Kosovo as a sovereign and independent state. And it is clear that we do not agree. But we agree, for example, that we need to see progress in the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina,” he stated in an interview with Euronews Serbia.
