American General Wesley Clark has declared that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, despite playing both sides with the West and Russia, ultimately wishes to do what Russian President Vladimir Putin is doing in Ukraine.
In a joint interview with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti for CNN, Clark said, “Serbia and Russia are imitating each other.”
“Russia’s hand is felt in the Balkans; Serbia is Russia’s hand in the Balkans and serves Russia’s interests. Vučić is clever, wanting to appear as if he is playing both sides, but when the time comes, he will do what Putin wants him to do.
We’ve seen a lot of violence and killings in the last 30 years, and we thought NATO had stopped it, but if there are problems in Ukraine, that problem will come to the Balkans, and leaders like Prime Minister Kurti will have to deal with it,” Clark added.
According to Kurti, the imitation of Russia and Serbia is worrying for Kosovo.
“Therefore, we are concerned because it is in the Kremlin’s interest to spread other conflicts in Europe through its collaborators. And Serbia in the Balkans is a hegemonic state and at the same time a collaborator of Russia,” said Prime Minister Kurti.
All of this, renowned Albanian lawyer Spartak Ngjela, has called just “possibilities.” In an interview with “Bota Sot,” he said that Kosovo has international protection, while Serbia, according to him, is heading towards bankruptcy.
“All of these are just possibilities, but unachievable. Kosovo has international protection because it emerged independent from an international conflict, but it was Russia that abstained in the UN Security Council. Serbia is heading towards bankruptcy, and that’s why the nationalist right is threatening Vučić and seeking to overthrow him. Therefore, it is understood that Vučić is lying to the extremists,” said Ngjela.
According to the lawyer, “Serbia’s military force that can confront the American force present in Kosovo is not visible on the horizon.”
He explained why there should be no parallels between the situation in Kosovo and that in Ukraine.
“There can’t be any parallels between Kosovo and Ukraine, because Russia knows very well that Kosovo was liberated by America and NATO, and there are American troops within it,” said Ngjela.
The lawyer emphasized that Serbia has no strength for new conflicts.
“A new Serbia-NATO conflict could dissolve Serbia as a federation with all its republic states within it… Therefore, Serbia has no strength,” said Spartak Ngjela for “Bota Sot.”
Recently, Balkan developments analyst Ivana Stradner also stated that the Serbian government is preparing for a new escalation in the Balkans.
