President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday that he has chosen his campaign spokesperson, 27-year-old Karoline Leavitt, as the new White House Press Secretary.

“Karoline Leavitt did an outstanding job on my historic campaign, and I am pleased to announce that she will serve as the White House Press Secretary,” said Trump in a statement on Friday evening.

“I have the utmost confidence that she will shine on the podium and help communicate our message to the American people as we make America great again,” he added.

The role of the White House Press Secretary typically involves informing the American public about presidential activities while maintaining the trust and confidence of the President.

Karoline Leavitt will be the youngest Press Secretary in White House history. The previous youngest Press Secretary was 29-year-old Ron Ziegler, who was appointed by President Richard Nixon in 1969.

Leavitt served as an assistant Press Secretary during the final part of Trump’s first term, from 2017 to 2021.

After Trump lost the 2020 election, Leavitt worked as the Communications Director for Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who Trump has now appointed as Ambassador to the United Nations.

In 2022, Leavitt ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, winning the Republican primary but losing the general election to Democrat Chris Pappas.

She rejoined Trump’s 2024 campaign and has served as the chief spokesperson for the President-elect’s transition team.
