The Central Election Commission (KQZ) had previously announced the installation of surveillance cameras at polling stations for the February 9 elections, and today, these cameras were officially presented during a KQZ meeting.

KQZ spokesperson Valmir Elezi emphasized that the purpose of placing surveillance cameras within the voting spaces is to ensure the security of election materials and to preserve the integrity of the voting and counting process.

“The cameras will be installed in a manner that fully protects the secrecy of the vote. They will be placed at the far end of the polling station, where the voting booth is located, ensuring they do not capture any indication of the voter’s preferences,” Elezi stated.

He further noted that the camera recordings will be stored temporarily until the destruction of the election materials, except for footage from stations where irregularities are identified. This footage will be made available to law enforcement institutions.

Elezi also clarified that on election day, the KQZ will not actively monitor the cameras, meaning the recordings will be passively captured. Access to the video footage will only be granted through a decision or request from law enforcement authorities.
