Today, Drenas commemorates the 35th anniversary of the powerful anti-Yugoslav protests, during which citizens bravely challenged the special units of the former Yugoslav Federation. The Mayor of Drenas, Ramiz Lladrovci, in a statement, recalled this historic day, emphasizing that it was a turning point for the freedom of Kosovo.
In this heroic confrontation, Drenas stood out for its unwavering resistance, demonstrating to the world its determination for freedom. During the protest, martyrs Enver Morina, Shani Morina, and Sahit Shala fell, while dozens of citizens were injured by the violence of the Yugoslav forces.
“That day was filled with will, courage, and pride for all citizens. It was the day when Drenas told freedom: We are here, alive and ready for liberation,” emphasized Lladrovci.
Today, to honor the fallen heroes who gave their lives for freedom, tributes were held in Drenas at the martyrs’ cemetery. The memory of Enver Morina, Sahit Shala, and Shani Morina remains unforgettable, and their sacrifice is the cornerstone of Kosovo’s independence.
