PREKAZ – On the 17th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence, hundreds of people from across Kosovo and Albania have gathered at the “Adem Jashari” Memorial Complex in Prekaz to pay tribute. Under the sounds of patriotic songs and the colors of the national and Kosovo flags, visitors honor the legacy of the Jashari family and the sacrifices made for freedom.

Haki Gërguri, a visitor from Fier, Albania, emphasized that the bloodshed by the Jashari family should not be misused by politicians. “Prekaz is the cradle of bravery and freedom. We have come as ‘the living dead’ to see ‘the living.’ The Jashari family will never be forgotten,” he stated.

For Dife Vladi from Vlora, in her 70s, this was her first visit to the historic site. Meanwhile, Nazif Visoqi from Istog highlighted that while independence was achieved, the full realization of the martyrs’ vision remains unfulfilled.

State leaders and political party representatives also paid their respects at the memorial, reaffirming Prekaz’s enduring significance in Kosovo’s history.
