The U.S. State Department has announced that the meeting between the American and Russian delegations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, concluded after more than four hours.

Yuri Ushakov, the foreign policy advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated on Tuesday that the meeting was successful.

Ushakov said the parties agreed on the conditions for a potential meeting between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Russian state news agencies.

He mentioned that a meeting between the two leaders will not be possible next week and that no specific date has been set.

The American delegation—composed of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Wikoff—had previously stated that today’s meeting was not intended to start negotiations, but rather to assess whether Russia is “serious” about ending the war in Ukraine.

The Russian side—comprised of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign policy advisor—stated that the priority would be the normalization of relations with the U.S.
