The President of the United States, Donald Trump, held a press conference in Florida, where he discussed the allocation of USAID funds, mentioning Kosovo.
Trump highlighted that two million dollars from USAID in Kosovo were dedicated to developing “sustainable recycling models” aimed at “increasing socio-economic cohesion” in the country.
However, during his statement, he mistakenly referred to Egyptians as a community in Kosovo, and Egypt as a country involved in the project.
“… 2 million dollars for developing sustainable recycling models to increase socio-economic cohesion among marginalized communities in Kosovo, such as the Roma, Ashkali, and in Egypt,” said the U.S. president. It is important to note that upon taking office, President Trump ordered a 90-day pause on foreign development assistance, calling for verification of its effectiveness and consistency with foreign policy.
“All leaders of departments and agencies responsible for U.S. programs of foreign development assistance must immediately pause commitments and payments of development assistance funds,” Trump’s decision read.
A USAID spokesperson told Nacionales a few days ago that all programs and grants without exclusionary measures had been suspended.
“Currently, to conduct a full review, all programs and grants approved by the Secretary of State, using foreign assistance funding, have been interrupted.
The Secretary of State has approved humanitarian aid for saving lives. Implementers of existing life-saving humanitarian programs should continue or resume their work,” the spokesperson said.
