The European Union’s measures against Kosovo will be lifted when all member states agree, and after discussions that are currently ongoing.

This was stated by the head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Aivo Orav, during his visit with the Mayor of Prizren, Shaqir Totaj.

Stating that the European Union is not complete without the countries of the Western Balkans joining, Orav was asked about what Kosovo must do to become a member.

In his response, Ambassador Orav added that Kosovo needs to fulfill the conditions or “homework.”

“I think it has been said many times at many levels of the EU that the EU is not complete until all the Western Balkan countries join. My sincere hope is that this will happen as soon as possible. But this means that Kosovo has a lot of ‘homework’ to do… What is needed to lift the measures against Kosovo is the consensus of the 27 EU member states, and then there are many discussions that are still ongoing,” Orav said.

On Tuesday, Orav also held separate meetings with political party leaders in Kosovo.

He mentioned that Kosovo’s citizens want EU membership, and the government must work to make this happen.

The Office of the Prime Minister also announced that during the Kurti-Orav meeting, in addition to the electoral process, the necessity of lifting the EU measures against Kosovo and the need for a quick review of Kosovo’s EU membership application were discussed.
