Friedrich Merz told the debate panel following the German elections that his main priority is “to strengthen Europe as quickly as possible so that we can be independent from the United States” in defense.
“I never thought I would have to say something like this on television, but after Donald Trump’s statements last week, it’s clear: this US government doesn’t care about Europe.”
Merz then explained how Elon Musk “interfered” in the German elections, calling it “drastic and shameful—similar to what we’ve heard from Moscow in the past.”
Elon Musk enthusiastically endorsed AfD last month, according to BBC reports.
