The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced that tomorrow will mark the beginning of the vote counting for citizens who voted at Kosovo’s diplomatic missions worldwide.

During the CEC meeting, it was stated that the counting of these votes is expected to start on Wednesday afternoon.

On February 8, for the first time, Kosovo organized in-person voting for members of the diaspora at its diplomatic missions across the globe.

The elections took place at 43 voting stations in 16 embassies and 14 consulates of Kosovo, in 19 different countries.

The participation rate was 73.56%, with 15,552 out of 20,324 registered voters casting their ballots at diplomatic missions.

So far, the counting of regular votes for political parties and candidates for parliament has been completed for the regular parliamentary elections held on February 9.

Currently, voter lists are being scanned in order to proceed with counting the conditional votes, those from persons with special needs, and postal votes.

In addition to voting at embassies and consulates, the diaspora also voted by mail. According to CEC data, out of 69,000 mail-in ballots, 62,990 envelopes were approved, while 4,865 were rejected.

Reasons for rejection include various issues. For instance, 729 envelopes were not considered as the applicants chose to vote in person at diplomatic missions. Other reasons for rejection include multiple submissions of ballots, missing postmarks, and other discrepancies.
