Donald Trump has warned that nuclear weapons, which he referred to as “monsters,” could “destroy the world,” raising alarms about an atomic apocalypse.
The former president issued a stern warning in a television interview on Sunday morning after making new weapons inspections with Russia and China.
In an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, Trump stated that he believes nuclear weapons are one of the greatest threats to humanity.
In a chilling warning, he said that if nuclear weapons are used again, it could lead to the apocalypse.
The United States holds the second-largest nuclear weapons stockpile in the world, with around 5,000 weapons.
Russia has more, with about 6,000, while China holds about 350, a third of that number.
Nuclear weapons have only been used twice, when the U.S. bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end World War II.
Speaking to Fox, Trump said: “We spend so much money on nuclear weapons. The level of destruction is beyond anything you can imagine.
We shouldn’t be spending all this money on something that, if used, might be the end of the world.”
Trump went on to say that many people are focused on claims about climate change, rather than addressing the global threat posed by nuclear weapons.
