The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has ordered a 30-day detention for the leaders of the Republika Srpska entity, following their refusal to cooperate with the authorities regarding allegations of undermining the constitutional order.

Late on Friday, the court confirmed to Radio Free Europe that detention orders had been issued for Milorad Dodik, the President of Republika Srpska; Radovan Višković, the Prime Minister; and Nenad Stevandić, the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Dodik, Višković, and Stevandić are suspected of violating Bosnia’s constitutional order, a criminal offense under the country’s Penal Code that carries a prison sentence of up to five years and a ban on holding public office.

The three officials ignored multiple summonses from the Bosnian Prosecutor’s Office for questioning. Consequently, the Prosecutor’s Office issued an order on Wednesday for their forced appearance.

Under Bosnia’s Criminal Procedure Code, individuals who refuse to appear in judicial institutions can be brought in by force. If this is not possible, a national arrest warrant is the next legal step.

The detention order was handed to the judicial police on Wednesday, with additional assistance requested from Bosnia’s State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA).

The State Prosecutor’s Office had launched an investigation into the case in December 2024, citing credible suspicions of criminal activity.
