Donald Trump Jr., the son of former U.S. President Donald Trump, has sparked controversy by sharing a map depicting Kosovo as part of Serbia.
During a podcast interview with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Trump Jr. displayed the map, a move that was widely reported by Serbian and Russian media. The act is being interpreted as a potential shift in U.S. policy toward Kosovo and a signal of increased understanding for Serbia’s stance in Washington.
President Vučić used the opportunity to argue that international law, often cited by European officials regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, does not apply in the same way to Serbia and its territorial integrity.
The incident has raised concerns in Kosovo, given that the U.S. played a pivotal role in Kosovo’s independence and was one of the first countries to recognize it as a sovereign state.
