British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, warned on Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not serious about achieving peace. His statement came ahead of a virtual meeting with other European leaders to discuss Ukraine, as reported by the BBC.
Approximately 25 leaders are expected to attend the virtual meeting, and Starmer stated that Putin should not be allowed “to play games” with the ceasefire proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The virtual meeting, which will take place later, is the latest gathering of the so-called “coalition of the willing”—a name coined when European leaders visited London earlier this month.
There have been several significant developments since then, including a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the U.S., supported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but still awaiting a final response from Putin.
Despite the ongoing impasse, President Trump expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, saying that there had been “good and productive” discussions with Putin on Thursday.
