Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Donika Gërvalla participated in the meeting between the foreign ministers of the European Union and the Western Balkans, held in Luxembourg.
In her remarks, Gërvalla emphasized that the time has come for decisive action, stating that Kosovo deserves clear support on its path towards EU and NATO membership.
“It is time for action. The Republic of Kosovo deserves clear support on its path towards the EU and NATO. In Luxembourg, at the meeting with the EU and Western Balkans foreign ministers, I reaffirmed that equal treatment and substantial inclusion of the Republic of Kosovo in integration processes is not only fair but essential for a complete, stable, and secure Europe,” Gërvalla said.
She also urged the European Union to lift its punitive measures against Kosovo.
“I emphasized three urgent steps: lifting the EU’s measures against Kosovo, finalizing Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, and supporting our application for EU membership. These steps directly impact the stability and credibility of the EU in the region,” she stated.
Gërvalla reiterated Kosovo’s commitment to implementing the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid Annex, stressing that Kosovo is fully dedicated to the EU-facilitated dialogue with Serbia.
“I also underlined Kosovo’s full commitment to the EU-facilitated dialogue with Serbia and the implementation of the Brussels Agreement and the 2023 Ohrid Annex. This process must conclude with mutual recognition and the establishment of good neighborly relations based on equality,” she said.
Highlighting the ongoing threats and Russian influence in the region, Gërvalla called for Kosovo’s integration into NATO as a guarantee for long-term peace and security across the continent.
“In light of continued threats and Russian influence in the region, I stressed the importance of Kosovo’s integration into NATO as a guarantee for lasting peace and security across the continent. There can be no stable peace without justice and accountability. Therefore, I called for clear support for a thorough investigation and punishment of the open act of aggression in Banjska,” she added.
Gërvalla concluded by reaffirming Kosovo’s commitment to its European path, stressing the country’s daily efforts towards reforms, strengthening democracy, and advancing a security agenda that contributes to Europe’s shared future.
“The time for action is now. Support for Kosovo is an investment in peace, security, and democracy across Europe,” Gërvalla concluded.
