The Kosovo Journalists’ Association (AGK) has condemned the actions of Fikrim Damka, a deputy from the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo (KDTP), after he physically interfered with Shqipron Xhema, a journalist from KALLXO.com, during the Kosovo Assembly’s constitutional session.

Reports indicate that Damka grabbed the journalist’s phone while he was attempting to gather a statement related to messages that had been published in the media.

The AGK responded by emphasizing that any physical or verbal interference with journalists in the course of their work constitutes an attack on freedom of expression and, by extension, on democracy itself. They called on the relevant institutions to address the incident seriously and take necessary steps to ensure journalists’ safety while performing their duties without fear or intimidation.

“The freedom of the press is one of the fundamental pillars of democracy, and any attempt to undermine it is unacceptable,” the AGK said in its statement.

The association’s response reflects its commitment to safeguarding press freedom and ensuring a safe working environment for journalists in Kosovo.
