U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that if it is no longer possible to reach a definitive resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, the United States should cease its mediation efforts and shift its focus to other strategic issues, reports Rks News.
“If it’s not possible to end the war in Ukraine, we need to move forward,” Rubio said before departing from Paris, where he held a series of diplomatic meetings.
Commenting on the U.S. role in the conflict, he emphasized that American involvement should not be indefinite.
“President (Donald Trump) has spent 87 days at the highest levels of this government making continuous efforts to advance and resolve this war. Now we are reaching a point where we must decide and determine whether that is still possible. That’s why we’re engaging both sides,” he added.
Rubio, along with special envoy Steve Witkoff, met yesterday with senior European and Ukrainian officials as part of Washington’s ongoing efforts to mediate a resolution to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
