The body of Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday at the age of 88, will be transferred this morning from Casa Santa Marta to St. Peter’s Basilica to allow the faithful to pay their final respects.
Three days of public mourning and prayer have been declared, giving everyone who wishes the opportunity to honor the late Argentinian pontiff.
The funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 AM, and is expected to be attended by global leaders including Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, Ursula von der Leyen, and Keir Starmer.
On Tuesday, the Pope’s body was visited in the chapel of Casa Santa Marta by cardinals, Vatican staff, and high-profile figures, including the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
The government has declared five days of national mourning, from Tuesday through Saturday.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell will lead a prayer service before the transfer of the Pope’s body.
Following the transfer ceremony, the public will be able to pay their respects in the days leading up to the funeral.
