Greenland is seeking to strengthen its ties with Denmark following the disrespectful rhetoric from the U.S. administration, said Greenland’s new prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, according to Reuters.

“We are in a situation in foreign policy that means we need to get closer to each other,” Nielsen said in Copenhagen during a joint press conference with his Danish counterpart, Mette Frederiksen.

“The Congress is unlikely to support the invasion of the semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, Greenland,” said the highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives in Copenhagen.

President Donald Trump stated that he wants the U.S. to invade Greenland and did not rule out using force to achieve this.

“I don’t believe there is real bipartisan support in Congress for acting aggressively toward Greenland,” said Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic minority leader in the House of Representatives, on April 25th.
