Former Prime Minister and ex-leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Isa Mustafa, has commented on the developments surrounding the possible candidacy of Albulena Haxhiu for Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly.

Speaking to Klan Kosova, Mustafa said that the winning party, Vetëvendosje (VV), has the right to propose any Member of Parliament, whether from its own ranks or from other parties. However, he stressed that he is not in a position to make a specific judgment on the proposed name, but emphasized the importance of avoiding institutional deadlock.

“The party that wins the elections, in this case VV, has the right to propose any of its MPs or MPs from other parties for Speaker of the Assembly. I do not consider myself in a position to judge who would be the right candidate. However, a right move would be to avoid blocking a proposal for a candidate who is not being supported by MPs of the opposition parties. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that this situation currently suits everyone, because apart from making statements, no one has the courage to confront governance,” Mustafa said.

He further commented on Vetëvendosje’s current stance:

“I believe VV is not satisfied with the election results and is buying time to find a solution — either to form a government that would suit them or to head into new elections.”
