Twenty-seven years ago in Llapushnik, Drenas, a fierce battle took place between the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and Serbian occupying forces, known as the Battle of the Llapushnik Gorge.
This three-day-long battle stands as one of the KLA’s most glorious events and a pivotal moment in the struggle for freedom.
The fight for control over the Llapushnik Gorge held major strategic importance for the KLA, as it enabled the blocking of the Prishtina–Peja road for Serbian forces, effectively halting their passage.
The gorge remained blocked for months, allowing KLA fighters to operate freely across a significant part of Kosovo, organizing and supplying their forces with the necessary weapons and resources.
