In a decisive move to break Kosovo’s ongoing political stalemate, President Vjosa Osmani has convened a consultative meeting today with the leaders of the country’s main political parties. The meeting, which began just moments ago, marks a renewed effort to resolve the parliamentary impasse that has left the Assembly unconvened for over a month.

Attending the meeting at the Presidential Office are:

  • Albin Kurti, leader of Vetëvendosje (VV)
  • Memli Krasniqi, head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK)
  • Lumir Abdixhiku, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK)
  • Ramush Haradinaj, chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK)

This high-level dialogue follows Osmani’s commitment announced yesterday to continue consultations with political party representatives in search of a constructive solution for the constitution of the new legislature.

Earlier today, the 16th attempt to form the Assembly failed, deepening the governance vacuum and raising concerns from both domestic and international actors about the country’s democratic functioning.

The ongoing political deadlock stems primarily from disagreements over the election of the new Assembly Speaker, with parties unable to agree on the formation of a secret voting commission required for the process.

President Osmani is expected to continue the meetings later today with minority party representatives, aiming to build a broad consensus and move the country forward.
