Serbia participated in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2025.
Following the performance by Princ, Serbia’s representative, an individual in the audience unveiled a striking banner bearing the message: “Your hands are bloody.”
In addition to this direct statement, the banner featured a red handprint a symbol associated with the student protests that have been taking place in Serbia for the past six months. This handprint has become an emblem of resistance against repression and the lack of justice in the country.
Eurovision cameras captured the moment as footage of the audience was broadcast shortly after the Serbian artist concluded his performance.
While the banner’s message may appear to support the domestic protest movement in Serbia, it could also be interpreted as a stark reminder of the region’s painful history particularly the crimes committed by the Serbian regime during the Kosovo war, which have been described as acts of genocide by victims and numerous international voices. Serbia continues to reject responsibility for these atrocities and has not issued an official apology for the massacres carried out against Albanian civilians in Kosovo.
In this context, the banner’s appearance at Eurovision can be seen as a symbolic act of protest against impunity and historical denial a bold and visible international statement that refuses to remain silent in the face of Serbia’s violent past.
Princ performed 15th on the second semi-final night but did not manage to qualify Serbia for the Grand Final.
